Challenge
UNHCR was looking for an emotional tool aimed at the Afro, indigenous and peasant population in Colombia to show what Gender-Based Sexual Violence – GBV is, how to protect themselves from it, and also destigmatize the victims.
The entity found that the primers and the available material was not friendly, nor pedagogical and did not generate emotional connection with the audience.
How did we solve it?
We created MY BODY, MY TERRITORY, an animated story with a clear, emotional and effective language. Through the stories of Sarai, a young indigenous woman; Brayan, an Afro child, and Rocío, a peasant woman with a physical disability, visualized different situations of VSBG. They and their families managed to find a path of overcoming and hope in the face of this difficult experience.
Achievements
With MY BODY MY TERRITORY we managed to use assertive communication for each audience and communicate highly sensitive topics. Due to his great impact at the global meeting of SGBV in Geneva, Switzerland; we made the versions in English, French and Arabic for UNHCR offices worldwide, which allowed this animation to become the main input for awareness workshops on SGBV transcending borders.
In the same way, we get the characters of our animations to reach other formats. With the characters from MY BODY, MY TERRITORY, we made the illustrations for the booklet “SGBV Institutional Training Manual” and the Indigenous Training Modules in Colombia.
